“I asked Heather to create a memory for me, she agreed, and I was thrilled.

It was a trip to Italy when my sister was celebrating 7 years cancer-free. We rented a villa in the hills outside of Lucca, a medieval walled city. As you drive down from the villa, there are a few row homes at the bottom of the road. One of them was owned by an elderly woman who would was her small sidewalk in front of her door every morning. My sister and I got in the habit of waving to her and would wave back. One afternoon, on our way back up the hill, we stopped and took a picture. The sculpture Heather created hangs on my wall at home. When my sister saw it, all of the memories of our Italian adventure came back. — Lynda W.

“Your art makes me forget myself. It takes me over.

Much as I do see it from a wood worker’s standpoint there is a greater part of me that apprehends the world and experience in terms other than how something is made. A house, a larger building, a streetscape, a garden, a piece of music, the inside of a concert hall, the light in my house at a certain time of day, the sound of rain as I drop off to sleep. All of these things dissolve my self-consciousness, cause me to forget a certain part of myself, stop the introspection, and experience what is outside of me. And your work does that. It actually draws me to itself, calls me to engage with itself in a way free of judgment. I look at your work and I hear myself say: ‘This is beautiful. I love this.’ “ Barry W.

“When I first approached Heather to create a commission for me to donate to a charity, she listened fully to my vision,

and asked a lot of questions to establish what I was truly looking to create.  This was a very special artwork to celebrate the 100th-birthday of Canadian Tire and to raise money for the JumpStart Charity.  Not only did Heather translate my vision into a magnificent work of art, she guided me comfortably through the process, worked with and co-ordinated outside resources, and she went above and beyond to establish accurate historical details for the commission.  It was a pleasure working with Heather and we hope that we can do it again in the future.” — Michelle & John Kristof

“This piece feels to me like an opportunity — an invitation to be curious, adventuresome.

From where I stand, I can see back into the density of the city to buildings of various shapes and sizes and that suggests to me that they were erected in different eras, maybe different centuries and possibly build upon even earlier settlements. I see a dynamic patchwork of built environments. This assemblage brings to mind my experiences in cities in England, such as, Manchester, Leeds, York which have such historic heritage. I love this artwork and find it very evocative. — Marilyn H.

“I have always admired Heather’s work so when our daughter announced she was moving back to Toronto from France, I knew I had the perfect idea for a gift to commemorate their time abroad.

They lived overlooking a charming square in the countryside near Lyon, so on our last visit we took plenty of photos to capture the view. I approached Heather with the project and she had the brilliant idea of creating a corner piece to better depict the actual square. It is a bit stressful commissioning a work of art, but Heather took us through the process and produced drawings that allowed us to visualize the finished artwork. We were thrilled with the result. She totally captured the essence of Place de la Chapelle. The amount of detail she was able to create is amazing and the piece changes with the light; it is a delight to have in the room and constantly admired by visitors. My daughter was thrilled with the piece! — Barbara and Phil C.

“We were already fans of Heather’s art and were excited when she agreed to work with us on a custom Chania piece.

Heather began with our trip photographs, added detailed research, and created a design that resulted in a work of art with such amazing detail that anyone who knows the port area of Chania will recognize it. A work of art needs to suit its surroundings and Heather carefully considered size, angles, and perspective to ensure ‘Chania’ installed perfectly alongside our staircase. Heather brought our idea to life. ‘Chania’ is a beautiful, personal, custom work of art that inspires conversation and evokes precious, time-kept memories.’’ —Iain and Marianne Thomson
